Change a Poly VVX or CCX Phone from Teams to Generic SIP
Change a Poly VVX or CCX Phone from Teams to Generic SIP
This article explains two ways to change a Poly VVX or CCX phone from the Microsoft Teams profile to the Generic SIP (Open SIP) profile using:
- The phone’s screen (GUI)
- A web browser
Method 1: Change the Profile from the Phone Screen (GUI)
This works when the phone menu is accessible and not locked down.
Steps
- On the phone, press Home.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Advanced.
Enter the admin password.
- Go to Administration Settings.
- Select Base Profile.
- Choose Generic (or Open SIP, depending on firmware).
- Accept the prompt to reboot.
- Let the phone restart and re-provision.
Notes
- The phone will reboot automatically.
- If Base Profile is missing, the phone may be locked to Teams.
- If the phone is locked to Teams, you may need to perform a factory reset to regain access.
Method 2: Change the Profile via Web Browser (Phone Web UI)
This is useful if you manage phones remotely and the web UI is enabled.
Prerequisites
- You know the phone’s IP address.
- The web interface is enabled on the phone.
- You have admin credentials.
Steps
Find the phone’s IP address:
- Home → Settings → Status → Network
Open a browser and go to:
http://<phone-ip-address>
Log in as Admin:
Navigate to:
- Settings → Provisioning → Configuration
- or Admin Settings → Base Profile (menu varies by model)
- Set Base Profile to Generic.
- Save the change.
- Reboot the phone.
After Reboot
- The phone switches from Teams to Generic SIP.
- SIP firmware and provisioning will load next.
Common Issues
Base Profile option is missing
- The phone may be locked to Teams firmware.
- You may need a factory reset to regain access.
Phone reboots but stays in Teams
- Your provisioning server may be forcing Teams mode.
- Check for a base profile setting that forces Microsoft/Teams (for example:
device.baseProfile="Microsoft") and remove it if present.
Cannot access the web UI
- The web interface may be disabled.
- Enable it via provisioning, or use a factory reset if you cannot access admin settings.
