How to Resynchronize a Yealink W80B Base Station with the W80DM DECT Manager

How to Resynchronize a Yealink W80B Base Station with the W80DM DECT Manager

Applies to: Yealink W80B · W80DM  |  Category: DECT / Hardware  |  Audience: PressONE Support / Admin

Overview The Yealink W80 system uses a centralized DECT Manager (W80DM) to orchestrate one or more W80B base stations. If a base station loses its association with the DECT Manager — due to a firmware update, factory reset, network change, or IP conflict — it needs to be re-registered before it can carry calls. This guide covers the full resynchronization process.

Prerequisites & Requirements

RequirementDetails
Network accessThe W80B and W80DM must be on the same IP subnet and able to reach each other. Multicast (UDP 5060 / RTP range) should not be blocked between them.
W80DM web UI credentialsDefault: admin / admin (change this if you haven't). Access via browser at the DM's IP address.
W80B MAC addressPrinted on the label on the bottom or back of the base station. Format: 80:5E:C0:XX:XX:XX
Physical access to W80BRequired if a hardware reset is needed (Step 3).
Firmware compatibilityW80B and W80DM firmware should be on the same major release branch. Mismatched firmware is a common cause of sync failure.

Understanding the W80B / W80DM Relationship

The W80DM acts as the DECT network controller. It manages handset registrations, call routing, and handover between base stations. The W80B base stations are "dumb" RF endpoints — they must be registered to the DM before they become active.

When a W80B is factory-fresh or has been reset, it enters discovery mode and broadcasts on the local network looking for a DECT Manager. The W80DM can discover it automatically (if Auto-Discovery is on) or you can add it manually by MAC address.

A base station shows as Disconnected or disappears from the DM's list when:

  • It received a factory reset or firmware reflash.
  • Its IP changed and the DM lost contact.
  • The DM itself was reset or re-provisioned.
  • A VLAN or firewall change blocked communication.

Step 1 — Check Current Base Station Status

1.1 — Log in to the W80DM Web UI

Open a browser and navigate to http://<W80DM-IP-Address>. Log in with your admin credentials.

1.2 — Navigate to Base Station Status

Go to Status → Base Station Status. You will see a list of all known base stations and their current state.

1.3 — Identify the Problem Base Station

Look for a base station showing any of these states:

  • Disconnected — DM knows about it but can't reach it.
  • Not in List — Base station is on the network but not registered to this DM.
  • (Missing entirely) — The base station has been reset and is waiting to be re-added.

Note the MAC address of the base station you need to resync.

Step 2 — Remove the Orphaned Base Station (If Needed)

When to do this step Only remove a base station entry from the DM if the base station is showing as Disconnected and you intend to re-add it fresh. If it simply shows as Offline temporarily (e.g., power cycle), skip to Step 4.
2.1 — Go to Base Station Configuration

In the W80DM web UI, navigate to DECT → Base Station.

2.2 — Delete the Existing Entry

Locate the base station entry by MAC address. Click Delete (or select the checkbox and use Delete Selected). Confirm when prompted.

Step 3 — Reset the W80B Base Station

Caution A factory reset will clear any locally stored configuration on the W80B. This is typically harmless since all config is pushed from the W80DM, but confirm before proceeding in production environments.
  1. Locate the Reset pinhole on the back of the W80B.
  2. With the unit powered on, insert a straightened paperclip or SIM tool into the pinhole.
  3. Hold for approximately 10 seconds until the LED flashes rapidly, then release.
  4. The base station will reboot. This takes 60–90 seconds.
  5. After reboot, the LED will flash amber/green — indicating it is in discovery mode, searching for a DECT Manager.

Option B — Web UI Reset (If Base Station Is Still Reachable)

  1. Access the W80B's web UI directly at its IP address (log in as admin).
  2. Navigate to Settings → Upgrade (or Settings → Reset depending on firmware version).
  3. Click Reset to Factory and confirm.
  4. The unit will reboot into discovery mode.
Tip If you're unsure which IP the W80B has, check your DHCP server's lease table using the base station's MAC address from the unit label.

Step 4 — Re-Add & Sync the Base Station in the W80DM

There are two methods: Auto-Discovery (easiest) and Manual Add (more reliable in complex networks).

Method A — Auto-Discovery

4A.1 — Enable Auto-Discovery

In the W80DM web UI, go to DECT → Base Station. Click Auto Discover or ensure the Auto Discover Base Station toggle is enabled.

4A.2 — Wait for Discovery

Within 1–2 minutes, the W80B should appear in the discovered list with a status of Authenticating or Connecting. If it does not appear, verify Layer 2 connectivity between the devices (same VLAN, no multicast filtering).

4A.3 — Accept / Authorize the Base Station

If the DM requires manual authorization of discovered base stations, click Accept next to the newly discovered W80B. The DM will push its configuration and the base station will register.

Method B — Manual Add by MAC Address

4B.1 — Navigate to Base Station List

In the W80DM web UI, go to DECT → Base Station.

4B.2 — Add the Base Station

Click Add. Enter the following details:

  • Name: A descriptive label (e.g., BS-01-Floor2).
  • MAC Address: The MAC from the label on the W80B (no colons or dashes required — the UI accepts both formats).

Click Confirm to save.

4B.3 — DM Contacts the Base Station

The W80DM will attempt to locate the W80B on the network using its MAC address. Once found, it will push configuration automatically. This process typically completes in under 2 minutes.

Step 5 — Verify Registration

5.1 — Confirm Status in W80DM

Navigate to Status → Base Station Status. The W80B should now show as Connected with an active IP address and firmware version populated.

5.2 — Check LED on W80B

The front LED on the W80B should be solid green (or pulsing slowly, depending on firmware). A rapidly flashing LED indicates it is still searching for the DM.

5.3 — Test a Handset

Register or re-register a W80 DECT handset via DECT → Handset in the DM UI. Place a test call to confirm audio path through the newly synced base station.

Troubleshooting

SymptomLikely CauseResolution
Base station not appearing in Auto-DiscoveryDevices are on different VLANs, or multicast is blockedEnsure W80B and W80DM are on the same L2 segment. Check switch/VLAN config. Use Manual Add as a workaround.
Status shows "Disconnected" after re-addingIP conflict, firewall rule, or wrong DM address on the base stationVerify the W80B's IP is reachable from the DM. Check ping <W80B-IP> from the DM host. Check for duplicate MAC/IP entries.
Base station registers but then drops offFirmware mismatch between W80B and W80DMUpdate firmware on both units to the same release. Yealink recommends keeping DM and BS on matching firmware branches.
"Authentication Failed" in DM logThe base station may still have an old DM association from a prior configPerform a full factory reset on the W80B (hold reset pin 15+ seconds for a deep reset). Re-add via DM.
LED stays amber after resetBase station in discovery mode but no DM foundConfirm DM is powered on and reachable. Verify DHCP is assigning the W80B an IP on the correct subnet.
Cannot access W80DM web UIDM IP changed after a DHCP renewalCheck DHCP leases for the DM's MAC. Consider assigning a static IP or DHCP reservation for the W80DM.
Best Practice Assign static IPs (or DHCP reservations) to both the W80DM and all W80B base stations. IP instability is the most common cause of recurring sync issues in DECT deployments.
